About the Region
Mauricio Salaverria is a sixth-generation coffee producer in El Salvador, continuing a family legacy that dates back to the mid-1800s. His farms, including Finca Himalaya and Finca VillaGalicia, are located in the Apaneca-Ilamatepeq mountain range in the Ahuachapán region. The region's volcanic soils and high altitudes contribute to the cultivation of high-quality coffee.
Mauricio transitioned to specialty coffee production in 2005, recognizing the need for higher-quality outputs to meet rising production costs. He is known for his meticulous post-harvest processes, including selective handpicking, dry fermentation, and slow drying on raised beds. His commitment to quality and innovation has earned his coffees recognition in competitions such as the El Salvador Cup of Excellence.
Through Divisadero Café Farms, Mauricio oversees the operations of his farms, implementing sustainable practices and fostering direct relationships with international buyers. His dedication to quality and sustainability has made him a respected figure in the specialty coffee community.
